Litter Picking

This week, all the children at Swan Lane will be taking part in an initiative from Wychavon District Council to help keep our communities clean and tidy.

Litter is a big problem in Evesham, as people are unfortunately not very good at putting their rubbish in the bin, or taking it home with them to be disposed of safely.  Cans, bottles and plastic wrappers take many hundreds of years to biodegrade, and present a danger to wildlife as well as making the town look and feel unpleasant.

Under the guidance of Karen from Little Litter Warriors, we visited Jubilee Park on a mission to collect as much litter as possible.  We found a huge amount of rubbish strewn along the hedgerows - we collected bags and bags of cans, bottles, sweet wrappers and crisp packets, some of which were over 20 years old!

We thank Karen for helping us to make Evesham a more beautiful place to be, and Mr Smith for organising the activities for us.

Children's Mental Health Week

Last week was Children's Mental Health Week, and the children at Swan Lane shared a number of different activities designed to support good mental health.

We learnt some new strategies to help us to face challenges calmly and positively, at a workshop led by Mrs O'Brien.  We chose our own class Morning Mantra to make sure that each days begins with a positive mindset: ours is 'Be kind, be positive and have a fantastic day!'

During the week, we practised mindfulness meditation in the classroom, and went to visit our friends in RW for a shared reading session.

We finished the week on a happy note by joining together in a sing-song with the whole school.

50 Things to Do at Swan Lane - Orienteering

One of Year 3's '50 Things to do at Swan Lane' is to take part in an Orienteering Challenge.  Orienteering involves many skills, including interpreting maps, a fitness challenge and most of all learning to work as part of an effective team.  It's also great fun!

3V had a whale of a time completing their Orienteering Challenge as part of their Mental Health Week activities.
