This afternoon, 3V enjoyed the first of their three Forest School sessions for this academic year. Although it was a bit chilly, thankfully the weather was dry, so the children were able to make the most of the great outdoors with Robbie, the Forest School teacher, and Mrs O'Brien supervising the fun.

On Friday, we will be writing a thank you letter from the little girl.
It would be useful if you could discuss the following with your child in preparation for Big Writing:
- Discuss and practise using the word of the week ‘cautiously’.
- Think about how the girl was feeling when she first saw the Pin Man.
- Practise using higher level connectives (therefore, however, despite…)
- Practise using generalising words (never, always, sometimes, occasionally)
Anything that children bring in before Friday can be used to assist with our Big Writing.

Some of the children in 3V have been very excited to be taking part in Cookery Club after school today. With help from Mrs Manion and Mrs Whitehouse, our very enthusiastic chefs have been making sweet and savoury pastries to take home and enjoy with their families.

In our history lessons in 3V we have been learning all about the Ancient Egyptians. This week, we looked at how the Ancient Egyptians looked after their dead.

In 3V this week we have been learning a new skill: how to solve addition questions using the column method. This builds on the children's recent Place Value work.
To solve addition problems using the column method, it is vital to keep the different digits in the correct place value columns - otherwise chaos will ensue! The children have been practising setting out their questions in the new format and getting used to the new method.
This morning, we looked at what happens when we need to bridge ten using the column method. We have been using practical resources, such as Dienes, and Place Value Grids to support the children's understanding. An example is shown below, to help you support children at home if they would like to practise what they have learnt.
We will be spending the next few maths lessons practising our new skills until we are completely confident with column addition.
